A Man of Faith
Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary
Scripture Text: Galatians 3:10 and Judges 7:1–14
Series: Comments on Galatians
Each achievement of the ancient workers of greatness was done through faith. If Gideon had conquered the Midianites without faith, by mere military strategy and prowess, he would have been a conqueror but one not remembered in the Bible. Indeed, we might never have heard of a Gideon. Instead, Gideon conquered through faith. What else could it have been? He was told to reduce his troops from 32,000 to 300. No sane commander would reduce his troops to this minimal company, especially when going up against an encampment that was “like locusts in abundance” (Judges 7:12). Yet a man of faith would do so. Clearly, Gideon was just that, man of faith who depended upon the Lord to give Midian and all the camp into his hand (Judges 7:14).
