Think of the bargains people will purchase today. It sometimes seems people must be spending their entire paychecks, getting all of those cheap things they just have to have, only to put many of them into a future yard sale. The items seemed so necessary, so valuable, when they were shiny and new. How soon they are forgotten.

Jesus did give everything for an item that he considered very valuable but is in fact old, dull, and nearly forgotten. That valuable item is you. You are wearing out more each day, getting older and duller (or you soon will be), and if you live long enough will have precious few people left who know you well enough to show up for your funeral. Face it: you are not that great of a buy. Yet Jesus has to have you; his eyes light up with the thought of you. The price tag that hangs from you however, is intimidating. It is a one-for-one trade — your life for his life. That is the price of your redemption and he gladly paid that price to have you in his kingdom. Jesus paid it all out; he gave his very life for you, as your own efforts cannot put away your sins.
