This is the art of the Christian, her truest discipline: bearing in mind that she lives in Christ and Christ now lives in her. She looks in the mirror and sees the person she has always seen. In her mind’s eye, she is still the imperfect one she has always known and wished would be a better person. Sometimes her conscience tells her that friends and family know who she really is. And at times, even those friends and family remind her that she does not fit the name of Christian.

This is when a Christian must be disciplined. She must train herself to say, Yes, yes, I know I am a sinner. But I am a sinner whom Christ loves. He died for me and now I live in him even though I am not always successful in living for him. Not only do I live in him but he lives in me!

The person you used to be was subjected to the law and all its guilt. The new you is innocent of all charges. You simply cannot be guilty because Christ, who fulfilled the law, lives in you. Learn this discipline of remembering that Christ lives in you. You are a new creation, whether you feel that way or not. This discipline is a mystery but it is also the hope of glory.
