When I was a boy, growing up in Ohio, waking up to snow on a Saturday morning was a great joy. The winds would often swirl drifts up to the eaves and that was an especially good snowfall. One Saturday, my friends and I walked out to where the new Interstate system was being built. We knew of a large hillside that had been cut away to make room for the highway and we hoped the snow drifts would be high and deep against those manmade cliffs. We were not disappointed as we ran to the top of the hill and jumped into the drifts. Soon we were diving into the snow drifts. What joy! Sometimes we would get stuck, headfirst, in the snow banks and our friends would have to deliver us from certain suffocation by pulling us out by our legs. Having been stuck headfirst in snowdrifts could not deter the joy of life in little boys. We would run back up and dive in again and again.

I lived and yet, I only now really live. It is like I am a boy again. I do not fear death because I have been delivered from the fear of sin and death by my Friend.
