The Objective of the Cross
Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary
Scripture Text: Galatians 2:21 and Romans 8:31-39
Series: Comments on Galatians
The Father sent his only Son to die for us because he does not want us to die. As the Scriptures say, God is for us (Romans 8:31). If he were not for us, he would have left matters to us. Of course, we would have failed miserably and died an eternal death. Now this will not happen. No, indeed! Sin and therefore death are vanquished because God’s great objective is that nothing will be able to keep us from his eternal love. Tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, and sword (Romans 8:35) will never separate us from his love. Neither will our meager works. It is only the love of God in the cross of Christ that justifies (Romans 8:34). That has been his plan from ages past and not even we can get in the way.
