People are apt to sin — even God-fearing people. We must endeavor to flee temptation but should not despair when we fail. Always throw yourself on God’s mercy when you fail to flee. He is faithful with his mercy. If you only depend upon your power to overcome temptation there are two errors you are prone to fall into: 1. to rely upon yourself to the extent that you become your own demigod; 2: such complete despair in your inability that you quit God. Of course, the second is the worst temptation of all. God has provided Christ as the way out of this temptation. Depend upon him when you find yourself undependable. Do not flee him; flee the temptation to flee him.
