What are you listening to these days?

People sometimes listen to preachers who tell them what benefits the preacher instead of what benefits the hearer. They teach what will keep themselves in a job and their bellies filled instead of what keeps their charge fed and in the will of God. Preachers should not care about keeping their pulpits; they should care about keeping their calling. They should not care about pleasing men; they should care about pleasing God. One could almost imagine that a preacher is not doing his job unless someone is upset by what he taught. The aim should not be to anger people but to speak the truth in love. Yet even when delivered in love, truth offends. It especially offends false teachers who stir up others against the truth — and therefore, against the preacher of truth.

Preach the cross of Christ, not the glory of man. Hear the cross, not the glory. Follow the cross,
not the glory. And rejoice in the glory that is the cross.
