Put to Rights

Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary

Scripture Text: Galatians 2:20 and 2 Corinthians 5:14-19

Series: Comments on Galatians

Today's Scripture Jigsaw

Your mother probably found you very loveable as a child. Some folks may even find you adorable as an adult. But you know better. If you are honest, you know there are parts of your thoughts and actions that are selfish, belligerent, and even hateful. In short, you are a sinner just like everybody else. You may be a very nice person but you fall short of the standards of Eden, let alone of the glorious holiness of heaven’s God (Romans 3:23). While you are in this dilemma (Romans 5:8), Christ’s sacrifice on the cross is extended to you, since he died for all people. The result is that you are now a liberated, spiritual person even though you are confined to your body for a while longer. You are no longer fettered by the law and sin and death but are freed to live in Christ’s grace. Though you are an unlovable sinner, you are loved by God, who sent his Son to put things right.
