Pardon Me

Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary

Scripture Text: Galatians 2:20 and 1 John 1:8-10

Series: Comments on Galatians

Today's Scripture Jigsaw

One of the most famous presidential pardons was President Gerald Ford pardoning Richard Nixon for his part in the Watergate scandal. Most Americans disapproved of his pardon but the President has the power to pardon crimes. Family and friends cannot do a thing to absolve the guilty party. The criminal may not pay money to lessen his sentence. There is nothing he can do but serve his time, yet the President of the United States of America may pardon him. He would still be guilty; yet he would not have to pay, as we say, for his crime. This sounds familiar.
