The Blessing to the Nations
Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary
Scripture Text: Galatians 3:7 and Matthew 28:16–20
Series: Comments on Galatians
Each Jewish person is in the lineage of Abraham, a physical child of the patriarch. But if you trust in God for the promised Offspring, the blessed Seed, the Savior of the World, then you are of Abraham’s real, spiritual lineage. You are a child of the patriarch because, like him, you were once an unbeliever but are now justified to God through faith. The great gifts of God — forgiveness, salvation, eternal life — are given only to the spiritual children of Abraham, those who believe in God’s promised Savior, in whom one finds pardon and heaven. These gifts are given to both Jews and Gentiles when they trust God for his blessing to the nations: that the whole world may be justified by faith in the promised Seed of Abraham — Jew and Gentile alike.
This is why Jesus sent his disciples into all the world, proclaiming the good news that he is the promised blessing to the nations.
