From the Confessions: The Small Catechism, The Fifth Commandment

You shall not kill.

What does this mean?

We should fear and love God so that we do our neighbors no bodily harm nor cause them any suffering, but help and befriend them in every need.

Pulling It Together: Leave it to God. It may sting your sense of honor if you do not avenge your dignity. But the honor belongs to the Lord anyway, and your own honor depends upon God (Psalm 62:7). So, let it go. Move on; you have a life to live. In the other direction lie death and dishonor. God’s wrath will rule in the end. You may as well not be a part of it too.

Prayer: Give me patience, Lord, to love unlovable people. Amen.
