Seventh Sunday after Epiphany
Order of Worship
Prayers of the Church
Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.
As Joseph was sent ahead to prepare for the future of Israel and the whole world, so you, Jesus, were sent into the world through the will of our Father’s loving heart. You used Joseph to feed the people with grain, but you, O Lord, are the Bread of Life, our great deliverance from sin and death. Give us the courage of the patriarch that we may bravely face our futures, living according to your will. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We bless you, Lord God, never forgetting all of your benefits. You pardon our sins, redeeming us from a pit worse than Joseph’s. Your lovingkindness and compassion are faithful, new every morning. You are slow to anger and gracious toward us. So, help us to turn from sin and selfishness, and live for you. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
One day, O God, we will die. Each of us will pass from this earth, yet we will not perish altogether. If we keep our faith in you, only these bodies will die, but we will live on in you, and on that Day, you will provide us with glorious, resurrected bodies. Give us this confident hope, even when we suffer and face death. We pray also for these whom we name before you now in our hearts and upon our lips, that they may be strengthened in this same hope of everlasting life… Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Our enemies surround us, Lord. May we not fear them but instead, fear you who can destroy both body and soul in hell. Help us to trust in your love so much that we are able to do good to our enemies, praying for those who hate us, expecting nothing in return save that you would be honored by our actions. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy—through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
