Sermon: On Listening to Jesus
Our service today features readings from the Word, prayers, beautiful music — including Gustav Holt's "Thaxted" from "Jupiter," "The Planets" played by our organist, Connie Burleson — a chat with the children, and a message about listening to Jesus.
Here is today's Scripture jigsaw that you may work while you are waiting on the service to begin.
Transfiguration Sunday Service
Order of Worship
Prayers of the Church
Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.
Give us, O God, the longing of your servant, Moses, that we might know you face-to-face, and in the end, when we are carried to the places of our burials, be laid to rest by you. Until then, fill us with the spirit of your wisdom, that we may be brought into the promised land, like Joshua, as your devoted servants. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Be exalted upon our praises, Lord. Even now, as we worship you on your holy hill, the church, we bless your Name, for you are a forgiving God. Nevertheless, we do not take your grace for granted, and ask that we may perceive our errors, and strive to mend our lives, for Christ’s sake. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Give us courage and strength to hold fast a confident confession of you, O Lord, our great Apostle and High Priest. And for these whom we now name before you in our hearts and on our lips, we ask your Spirit to move within them, that they may consider Jesus and be strengthened in confident claim to your cross … Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Take us up the mountain to pray with you, Lord Jesus. Take us under your cloud, Father. Work through the Word, Holy Spirit, so that we may to your Chosen One alone. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy—through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
