Good Friday

Scripture Texts: Psalm 22:1–31; Isaiah 52:13–53:12
Sermon: He Has Done It
The Good Friday service is brief and solemn, The sanctuary has been stripped of brightness and color; all seems dark, as Jesus has been crucified. Yet in the darkness, we remember the prophecies of a Light in the darkness. A homily on Psalm 22 brings the ancient story into focus. We hear the Seven Words, responding with hymns, then departing in silence, to await the festive shout of the third day.

Worship
Christ suffered for all our sins; he bore the full weight of a world’s iniquities. Believers are made righteous because of him. His suffering was not only physical, but also emotional, as God forsook him when he bore our sins. He is our high priest, a higher priest who has made a way for the rest of us to draw near to God. His throne of grace is open to all who trust in his mercy and grace. Even Peter, the denier, was enabled to draw near to God with complete confidence, knowing “it is finished” because of Christ, not because of his faithfulness.
Visitor Info
We invite you to join us for an in-person service. St. Paul's features traditional worship and a message grounded in the Scriptures and guided by the Lutheran Confessions—all in a friendly, family-like environment. Our worship services are traditional and liturgical. Holy Communion is celebrated on the first and third Sundays, as well as festival Sundays.
Please notice that we welcome and encourage children to worship with us. Just before the sermon Pastor Ryman has a chat with the children. You're going to love this part of the service.
Our services are mask-optional.
