Pentecost Sunday
Order of Worship
Prayers of the Church
Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.
Holy Father, give your church the language of love, that speaking the truth of the gospel, we might communicate even with those who do not speak our tongue, and by the working of your Spirit in the Word, we all may at the last, rise up to meet you in the clouds. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We confess to you, Lord, even as King David acknowledged, that we are sinful and unclean. Indeed, no one is righteous before you. Nonetheless, when we meditate on the days of old, of all that you have done, we realize that you have become the righteousness of sinners like us. What can we ask but that you teach us to do your will and that you lead us on the level ground of the gospel. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We are grateful to you, God, for the faith that exists among us at St. Paul’s. We are especially thankful for our confirmands, Andrew Baker, Sara Barringer, and Peyton Holland. Cause their confirmation in the Christian faith today to be the beginning of a great journey, a quest to hear and know the gospel of Jesus Christ, to lift up their voices like Peter of old, like German today, and with your church in these last days, that they may be a blessing to their neighbors, and bring you glory and honor. Be with those who wish they could celebrate in-person with these confirmands today, but cannot due to illness or infirmity. Help them give thanks for their own faith, that they are baptized into Christ Jesus, and have a share with all the saints in glory. Give to those who suffer the hope of salvation, especially those whom we name before you now in our hearts and upon our lips… Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Holy Spirit, move in us that we may keep Christ’s word. Teach us all that we need to know and bring to remembrance all that Jesus taught his disciples. And finally, give us peace—not the fleeting, political peace that the world likes to offer, nor the superficial peace of spirituality and piety. Give us your peace that we may rejoice, knowing that as you have gone to the Father, you will one Day bring us into the kingdom of his presence. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy—through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
