Order of Worship
The Prayers of the Church
Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.
Lord and Judge of all mankind, give us the courage of Achan, to confess our sins and accept the consequences. In our honesty following on the dishonesty of covetousness, may we bring you glory and praise. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
You have taught us, heavenly Father, that when we die, we will not carry with us any earthly treasure. Make us more noble than the beasts, and those who parade their pomp before others, so that you might be our only boast. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Make us a godly people, Holy Spirit, that we may be content with necessities. Like Paul, may we be content with little or with much because you are our everything whether we lack or have plenty. And give this godly contentment to us when we suffer, affording its peace most particularly to those we name before you now... Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Keep our eyes on that which is rightfully ours, that which you have provided. Guard our hearts from envious desires, whether material or emotional and physical. Help us to be satisfied with your promises, so that we may be rich toward you, God. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy — through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
