Prayers of the Church
Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.
We give you thanks, O Living God, that you have set your seal upon our cherished dead. We give you further thanks that they but sleep who will on that Day be raised from their graves by your mighty hand. We are reminded by their lives and deaths and the promise of resurrection to eternal life, that through baptism we are all sealed with the mark of your Lamb. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Give your people, Lord, the courage to lift up the two-edged sword of your Word, both law and gospel, in their hands, and may your high praises be in our throats, that the whole world would know that there is a God among the nations. Bless our missionaries as they wield this sword of truth. Expecially bless your persecuted church throughout the world, giving them the fortitude of your Holy Spirit, and using their bold witness to further the kingdom. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We ache for that Day, Father, which your servant Moses longed for: that Day when we shall be like you and see you face-to-face. We echo the confession of the Third Article: that we believe in the communion of saints, bodily resurrection, and everlasting life. We ask that you would give to those suffering among us the conviction of the whole holy church, that they may be strengthened in spirit, if not in mind and spirit. We pray this especially for these whom we name before you now... Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Hold us, Lord God, among those whom you declare blessed. May we know the comfort of your kingdom, be satisfied in the cross, be merciful to our neighbor, as well as know your mercy, and in the end, keep the faith so that we might receive the inheritance of the sons of God, seeing you in your Word and in your glory. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy — through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
