The Prayers of the Church
Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.
That great Day is coming, Lord God, and for that we give you thanks. We yearn for the Day when those who have been arrogant toward your kind mercy will be judged, when the remains of the harvest will be set ablaze. Help us to remember your law, and believe in the Lord of the Gospel, the Son of Righteousness, that eternal day may always stretch before us. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Your judgment is righteous and just, so we may be glad and look forward to your coming to judge the living dead of this earth. But you have made known your salvation, Father, sending your Son to redeem the world. We sing for the joy of knowing you have saved us for Christ’s sake. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
May your Word speed ahead throughout the nations, O God, that your name may be praised and your return made sure. And may we who have received your redemption abide in your name through the Word a pious Christian life, so that world might know God is in the lands. We pray that the comfort of your abiding presence be with all those who suffer and grieve among us, especially for these whom we name before you now... Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We are convinced that the end is coming, but we ask you for the confidence that it is nearer than we once thought. Help us to live as though your return is today. Keep us from false gods and spurious saviors, and fix our hearts and minds, our very souls, upon you, O Christ, that the work of your Spirit within us will not have been in vain. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy — through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
