Prayers of the Church
Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.
O, Lord, you have commanded us to be careful, to take care to keep your commandments that we might live and multiply and possess the land. We know, Lord, that it is not possible. We keep trying and in that trying, we run the danger of depending upon ourselves. Help us to depend only and ever upon you, upon your grace, especially when we fail, nut even more so when we succeed at keeping the commandments, so that you would be glorified in our doing. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Help us to be joyful in you, Lord. Help us to go into tomorrow with rejoicing in our hearts, rejoicing in your faithfulness and goodness and mercy that is not only extended to us but has endured through the ages for all your people. Help us to be so grateful for the ample providence that you have given to us that we seek to share you with the entire world, knowing that your blessing awaits them too. We would to enter into your house with thanksgiving, into your courts with praise, always giving thanks to you and calling upon your name. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Even though we have the opportunity tomorrow, Lord, to eat a lot of food, we tend to be anxious. We tend to be anxious about what we are going to eat the next day. We are no different than the crowds who followed you. We wonder if our pension is going to last, if the next paycheck is going to arrive before we run our of money, if we are going to land a better job. We are anxious. Help us to be anxious for nothing but to trust in you, offering you with prayer and supplication and thanksgiving requests that we know you will answer. Guard our hearts and minds with the peace of Jesus Christ so that you would be praised. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Indeed, Lord, we can do all things through him who strengthens us. So, we ask that you would strengthen us to do your work, your good and best work: that we would believe in Jesus whom you have sent, Father. Help us to believe and so, to be filled with the bread of life that we would not hunger nor thirst anymore. We ask this especially for all of these whom we name before you now in our hearts and minds end even upon our lips, that you fill them with your ample providence... Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy — through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
