Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.
You are the Lord; there is no other God. No idol deserves the praise we give to you alone. They are fashioned by human hands but you, O God, are from before the ancient days. Yet, even in eternity you were mindful of your people to come, that you would call them in covenant righteousness so that the nations might hear the gospel and be blessed in your light. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Your voice, God of glory, thunders over the waters. Give us ears to listen to you alone even when dark clouds loom, to hear you speak in the in the glory of your majesty. Give us eyes of the heart that we might see you enthroned on the flood, that your church would be blessed with peace. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We commemorate your baptism today, Jesus. Even so, we remember our own baptisms, that being baptized into your death, we too, like you, will be raised from the dead by resurrecting power of your Father. These bodies of sin no longer enslave us for we are crucified with Christ and set free from sin, made alive to you. Give us the grace to walk in this newness of life, especially when we feel old and tired and alone. We ask this especially for those suffering min body, mind, or spirit, and particularly these whom we name before you now... Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Beloved Son of the Father, we praise you for fulfilling all righteousness, being baptized by John when you had no need to repent. Thank you for identifying with us and with all sinners throughout time, that we might be washed clean of our sin through your blood, O Lamb of the Father, and so that your Spirit, O God, would come upon us and live within us. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy — through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
