Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.

By your Word, Lord God, you spoke all things into existence. Nothing was created in the beginning except that it came from your lips. And you created all this from the nothingness of chaos. So, we ask now that you would create clean hearts within us where none exist, and renew in us spirits of righteousness from the chaos of sin and death — for Christ’s sake. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. 

Your voice thunders in the whelming flood of baptism. In Christ’s baptism, and so in our own, you have broken the sin of humanity, you have made death and the devil skip away in fear of your command. Strengthen your people to believe in your Word, that you may bless them with the peace of your baptismal promises. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. 

We know that we will continue to sin so long as we are in this flesh. But help us to not continue in a state of sin — in the practice of sinning. Give us courage to confess to you and repent, if need be, over and over again. And give us faith to believe your word: this is my body, this is my blood, given for us for the forgiveness of sins, so that we do not continue in our sins. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. 

Plunge us into your Holy Spirit, Christ Jesus. Refresh us in faith. And renew all those who suffer or mourn among us, that they may know your love and forgiveness, poured out in Word and Sacrament, and be emboldened to continue believing your recreating Word. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. 

Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy — through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
