Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.

Come, Holy Spirit, and stand us on our feet. Make us an upright people, able to hear you speaking to us in your Word. Embolden us to proclaim that Word, sharing the gospel without fear, faithfully announcing the good news whether we are heard or not, so that you may work repentance or wrath according to your will. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. 

There is much in this world to gladden our hearts, but so much that would bring us down into despair. There are those who scorn your church and even members of this congregation for serving in your kingdom. Sometimes it seems like life itself is against us. We have had enough of the world’s animosity. What can we do? We will look to you until you have had mercy on us. We will continue looking to the Lord our God, not to the world that mocks us, so that despite our feelings on a given day, we may have your peace. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. 

We thank you for the faithful work of Lutherans for Life, who face the world’s contempt more than we will likely ever experience. Give them courage to face those who will not listen and who rail against them, especially when they feel inadequate for the task. Remind them that your power is perfected in weakness. 

Touch those among us who are sad, suffering, mourning, or ill. Give them courage to look up to you, and to believe that your grace is sufficient for them. May they give you thanks, no matter how they feel, for your love, your presence, and your sustaining grace. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. 

Open our eyes, Lord, for we would see you. Unstop our ears, for we would hear and believe your Word. Give us hearts that trust you and take no offense at your Word, nor the movement of your Spirit here. Remain among us in this little village called St. Paul’s, and teach us so that your mighty works may come to be known here. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. 

Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy — through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
