Numbers 28–30
Scripture Text: Numbers 28:1–30:16
Series: Read the Bible in a Year
Christ is peeking around the corner in today's reading. The daily offerings described in chapter 28 foreshadow the coming Messiah. The two male lambs offered morning and evening are a shadow of the Lamb of God who would give sacrifice himself for our sin. No longer would twice daily offerings be required, for God would be satisfied with the one offering of himself (Hebrews 10:1–18). The food offering of fine grain and oil points to the Bread of Life, given so those who hunger for righteousness with God may be satisfied. The fermented drink offering foreshadows God's grace and peace being multiplied to us through the forgiveness of sin and justification with God, and therefore sanctification for Christ's sake (1 Peter 1:2).
Additional offerings are given on the Sabbath. This too, points aheqad to our own spiritual sacrifice (Romans 12:1–2) of spending time with God and his people on the Lord's Day. Monthly offering and festival offerings are also outlined.
Specifics about vows and oaths are dealt with so that the Lord's name is revered and not taken in vain.
