Numbers 35–36

Scripture Text: Numbers 35:1–36:13

Series: Read the Bible in a Year

Land is apportioned for the Levites, those who would be busy with mainting the rites of the tabernacle and eventually, the temple. The also had functions to fulfill among the people and, as such, were to be allocated cities throughout the promised land. Like the God they served, they were to live amonf the people.

Cities of refuge are established so that people who accidentally killed someone would have a place of protection from family vengeance.

A good bit of the end of Numbers deals with keeping the land of the deceased within the tribe of his father's clan.

This concludes "the commandments and the rules that the LORD commanded through Moses to the people of Israel zin the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho" (Numbers 36:13). Tomorrow we begin Deuteronomy.
