Notice Noah's act of trust in God's continued providence. He sacrificed to God many of the animals left on the ark. Of course, Noah was able to do this through faith because God had made a pre-covenant with him, saying that he would make it through the flood and receive the covenant of continued life on earth.

Though Noah was considered a righteous man by God, he was still susceptible to the Fall and sin — as are we. Noah got blacked-out-drunk. Worse, he ignored his own sin by cursing one of his sons for reporting his drunkenness. In this bit of the story we see how Canaan becomes alienated from the famiily and from people of God by the time we get to the story of Abraham.

In chapter 10, we see the nations that develooped after the flood, all coming from the lineage of Noah (Genesis 10:32).

At this point in history, all the nations presented in chapter 10 had the same language. They determined to make a name for themselves in the heavens, working together to build a great tower. Their evil pride was dealt with by God confusing their languages (though we are not told how this was accomplished). They people further dispersed and new languages were developed, as well as divisions between the various people groups. It bears asking: is it rebellion against God that causes interpersonal issues?

Nonetheless, from these disparate groups came Abraham, through whom God would bless the nations in his own way.
