Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary

Scripture Text: Galatians 3:1 and Romans 8:26-28

Series: Comments on Galatians

Today's Scripture Jigsaw

We are all vulnerable to the wiles of the devil. But we should not despair when we are tempted or even when we fall into sin. God is still with us. Even the devil’s trickery is turned to good, since the Spirit of God helps us in our weakness. We need to relax a bit and trust God. What if the Galatians had responded to the Judaizers this way? Of course, we are not good enough. Yes, we are certainly sinners. This is why Christ died for us too. Instead, they became anxious and did not trust that God was with them always. They had to do something about it — something good, something righteous, something saving. What if then, they responded in this manner? We have been duped! We did not need to do a thing but trust the power of God in this weakness of ours. We will stop trying to be righteous enough to earn God’s favor, and now, trust in the triumph of Christ alone. What if the Galatians had responded that way? What if you do?

Relax; God has this under control.
