• Collect: Give us, Father God, hearing hearts and clear eyes, that we may receive your Word with faith and thus, see the signs of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, eternally one God. Amen.
• Psalm 40:1–17
• Matthew 3:13–17
• You must honor Baptism even more and esteem it glorious because of the Word, as God himself has honored it both by words and deeds. Moreover, he confirmed it with miracles from heaven. For do you think it was a joke that, when Christ was baptized, the heavens were opened and the Holy Spirit descended visibly, and everything was divine glory and majesty? [The Large Catechism, Baptism]
• Hymn: “Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies,” Charles Wesley Tune
Christ, whose glory fills the skies,
Christ, the true and only Light,
Sun of righteousness, arise,
triumph o’er the shade of night;
Dayspring from on high, be near;
Daystar, in my heart appear.
Dark and cheerless is the morn
unaccompanied by Thee;
joyless is the day’s return,
till Thy mercy’s beams I see,
till they inward light impart,
glad my eyes, and warm my heart.
Visit then this soul of mine,
pierce the gloom of sin and grief;
fill me, radiancy divine,
scatter all my unbelief;
more and more thyself display,
shining to the perfect day.
• Benediction: May the Spirit of Christ pierce any gloom of sin, grief, and doubt, and fill you with the radiant glory of his peace. Amen.
• Memory Verse: ... so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 1:7–8)
• Memory Verse Aid: ...STYANLIAG, AYWFTROOLJC, WWSYTTE, GITDOOLJC. (1C 1:7-8)
