The Signs of Immanuel – Tuesday

Preparing for the Fourth Sunday of Advent
Series: Lectio Concordia

• Online jigsaw puzzle of today's reading   • Index

• Collect: Lord God, manifest the glory of Christ in my life so that, by your grace, I may know the joys of your steadfast love, O blessed Trinity: Father, Son, and Spirit holy. Amen.

• Psalm 98:1–9

• Psalm 2:1–12

• Let this, then, be the sum of this article that the little word “Lord” simply means as much as “Redeemer.” It is he who has brought us from Satan to God, from death to life, from sin to righteousness, and who preserves us in the same. But all the points that follow in order in this article serve no other end than to explain and express this redemption. They express how and by whom it was accomplished, how much it cost him, and what he spent and risked so that he might win us and bring us under his dominion. They describe how he became man, was conceived and born without sin by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, so that he might overcome sin. (LC, Second Article)

• “O Come, O Come, Immanuel” Tune

O come, O come, Immanuel,
and ransom captive Israel
that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear.

Refrain: Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel
shall come to you, O Israel.

O come, O Wisdom from on high,
who ordered all things mightily;
to us the path of knowledge show
and teach us in its ways to go. Refrain

O come, O come, great Lord of might,
who to your tribes on Sinai’s height
in ancient times did give the law
in cloud and majesty and awe. Refrain

O come, O Branch of Jesse’s stem,
unto your own and rescue them!
From depths of hell your people save,
and give them victory o’er the grave. Refrain

O come, O Key of David, come
and open wide our heavenly home.
Make safe for us the heavenward road
and bar the way to death’s abode. Refrain

O come, O Bright and Morning Star,
and bring us comfort from afar!
Dispel the shadows of the night
and turn our darkness into light. Refrain

O come, O King of nations, bind
in one the hearts of all mankind.
Bid all our sad divisions cease
and be yourself our King of Peace. Refrain

• Benediction: May the Lord lift up the light of his face upon you and put joy and peace deeply within your heart. Amen.
