God gives Moses details on how to build a place for him to abide in the midst of the people. This is an important thing to note about God. He is not like manmade, invented gods who live far away and deign to make their prsence known from time to time. The one, true God desires to be among his people. So the Lord provides elaborate instructions for the construction of a sanctuary.

Part of these instructions are for fashioning an ark where God would dwell upon its lid called the mercy seat. There God would meet with Moses and speak with him, giving commandments for the people. Is this how God speaks to us today?

Does Exodus 25:23–30 prefigure anything in the church today?

Within the tabernacle was to be an altar where sacrifices would be offered to God. As sacrifice is necessary to approach God, what sacrifice allows us to confidently approach the throne of grace today?
