God gives further instructions about the sanctuary by giving details on the making of garments for the priests, and about the consecration or setting apart of the priests from the people. All of this was to be done to Aaron and his sons.

This consecrtation and ordination was finalized in a holy meal and a seven-day consecration of the altar. Then instructions about daily sacrifices are given.

By the end of our reading today, we discover it is not the doing of these things that makes the sanctuary, its furniture, the priests and their clothing, the altar, or even the sacrifices holy. It is the Lord who does these things (Exodus 29:44). It is the same today; we do not make ourselves holy to the Lord by our acts of devotion, good works, service at church, or other offerings. The Lord makes us holy (1 Thessalonians 5:23).

Once the sanctuary is consecrated, the Lord will dwell there among the people. In these last days, God has done something akin to this yet altogether new. The Son of God has offered himself as sacrifice for our sins. So, God sanctifies us to himself through the giving of himself, once and for all, instead of through daily sacrifices (Hebrews 10:9–10).
