Faith to Comprehend
Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary
Scripture Text: Galatians 1:1-5 and Romans 1:16-17
Series: Comments on Galatians
Without faith it would be difficult to believe that Jesus is God. How can the Father be the One God (Deuteronomy 6:4) while the Spirit is the One God, all the while Jesus is that same One God? It does not stand up to any basic reasoning skills. Yet the Scriptures clearly state these three are the One God. It takes faith to apprehend the truth, let alone comprehend. This same faith makes available the grace and the peace to continue believing. Such grace and peace come from God—not from the church or the pastor or the religious method. They come from God in Christ alone. As Luther points out, this is confirmed by both Scripture and creed. You will still need faith to believe. May God grant you such grace to believe, as well as his peace when understanding is difficult.
