It seemed like he spent half of his childhood being grounded. He was always doing something that displeased his parents and the result was that he could not go out and play with his friends for a week at a time. Bad grades though, would get him grounded for six weeks, until the next grade card would come home. After years of this disciplinary action having no positive benefit, his parents withdrew the punishment. He still sensed their displeasure with his poor academics but was free to enjoy life as a boy. They hoped one day he would mature and do well in school.
It would have been an odd thing indeed, if he did not accept his parents’ mercy and stayed in his bedroom for the rest of his childhood.
