L: O Lord, open my lips,
C: and my mouth shall declare your praise.
C: Glory to the Father, and to the Son†, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
C: Alleluia! Alleluia!

with the INVITATORY PSALM.
During the weeks of Pentecost
L: Give glory to God, our light and our life.
C: Oh, come, let us worship him.
On All Saints and other Major Saints’ Days
L: The Lord is glorious in his saints.
C: Oh, come, let us worship him. Alleluia.
C: Oh, come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us shout for joy to the rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God,
and a great king above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth;
the heights of the hills are also his.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands have molded the dry land.
Oh, come, let us bow down and bend the knee,
and kneel before the Lord our maker.
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture
and the sheep of his hand.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son†,
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be forever. Amen.

The LESSONS from the Daily Lectionary are read and discussed. After the last reading and discussion, the leader continues:
L: In many and various ways God spoke to his people of old
by the prophets.
C: But now in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son.
C: Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty Savior,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old that
he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God,
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness
and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son†,
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be forever. Amen.
The PRAYER OF THE DAY is said.
C: Amen.
Other PRAYERS may be said by the leader with the congregation responding “Amen” to each. In concluding the prayers the leader says:
L: O Lord, almighty and everlasting God, you have brought us
in safety to this new day; preserve us with your mighty power,
that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome in
adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your
purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
C: Amen.
Or the Morning Prayer of Martin Luther may be prayed:
C: We give thanks to you, heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ your dear Son, that you have protected us through the night from all harm and danger. We ask that you would also protect us today from sin and all evil, so that our life and actions may please you. Into your hands we commend ourselves: our bodies, our souls, and all that is ours. Let your holy angels be with us, so that the wicked foe may have no power over us. Amen.
L: Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray:
C: Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.
L: Let us bless the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
L: The Lord almighty bless us, and direct our days
and our deeds in his peace.
C: Amen.
