The Constant Battle
Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary
Scripture Text: Galatians 1:6-9, Ephesians 6:10-20, and Revelation 17:14
Series: Comments on Galatians
It is a constant battle. So, we must be on our guard because the battle comes near and the enemy would have us. Jesus says that we should “stay dressed for action” (Luke 12:35). Peter says to have our minds readied or dressed for action (1 Peter 1:13). Paul teaches us how to dress the whole person (Ephesians 6:10-20) so that we are battle-ready. He earnestly advises Christians to outfit the whole person for combat. To Jesus and his disciples, life in this dark world is not to be taken for granted. The enemy is always near. Are you outfitted and ready? Are you able to withstand cosmic powers, spiritual forces, and the schemes of the devil? Clothe yourself with Christ (Romans 13:14) so that you are dressed for the constant battle, otherwise you may be the next casualty, a deserter from the field of faith (Galatians 1:6).
If you are dressed or covered in Christ, you may take good courage. Though the devil and his world make war against the Lamb, “the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings” (Revelation 17:14). And if you are dressed for the battle, you are “called and chosen and faithful” (ibid.).
