The Precious Gift of God
Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary
Scripture Text: Galatians 3:2 and Isaiah 40:6-8
Series: Comments on Galatians
When considering one’s relationship with God, it is always better to side with the Word of God rather than with your intellect. Who knows whether your reasoning is right? What has been your track record in the reasoning department? Have you always been correct? Indeed, think how often you have been wrong. Or consider the thoughts of men. They change so often; first, one thing is wrong and then years later it is thought to be right. If this is the case with earthly things, how much more with spiritual? What is written in the book that stands forever? What is written about that most important matter of being justified to God? You are saved by the grace of God through faith, not by your works (Ephesians 2:8–9). This is the precious gift of God that we would explain away. Yet this truth of God’s Word will never change or fade away, no matter how much we reason.
