Embrace Grace
Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary
Scripture Text: Galatians 1:6-9 and Romans 11:5-6
Series: Comments on Galatians
Churches add so many things to the gospel. If you really want to be saved, they seem to say, you must not only believe on the cross of Jesus, you must also do these additional things. Some insist that you must attend a particular church, or tithe, or be baptized a certain way, or ritually remember the Lord’s death, or manifest a particular spiritual gift, or any number (it seems) of other things.
No! We have been saved by the grace of God — not by a denomination, water, bread, wine, giving money, speaking in tongues, or by practicing any other particular beyond God’s grace. These particulars are only how we remember and proclaim what God has done for us in Christ. In doing some of these things we simply embrace grace. Depending upon anything further than the grace of God in Christ is damnable, anathema. How dare we “preach any other gospel than Christ’s own”?
Embrace the grace that God has freely given you Embrace it through faith, not by then trying to pay for it with religious works.
