Scripture Text: Galatians 3:10 and Isaiah 61:10–11

Series: Comments on Galatians

Today's Scripture Jigsaw

It is God alone who accomplishes our righteousness. We add nothing to his redemptive, sanctifying work. Through baptism, he clothes us with the garments of salvation, with the covering of Christ himself (Galatians 3:26-27). He clothes us with his own righteousness (Isaiah 61:10). In this holy work, he gives us the new self which we must put on each day (Ephesians 4:22–24). This putting on is not merely doing good works, it is living the Christ life by reminding ourselves who gives us, not mere animal skins but, the white robes of Christ himself (Genesis 3:21; Revelation 3:4). This, of course, is done through faith in Christ, our covering, not in works of the flesh by which we would only be constantly aware that we are either naked our poorly clothed in filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6).
