The Death of Death
Comments on Galatians with an ear to Luther’s commentary
Scripture Text: Galatians 3:13 and John 11:21–26
Series: Comments on Galatians
“O Death, where is your sting?” (1 Corinthians 15:55). For believers, death has lost its sting. Those who have faith in Christ know that he has overcome death. The promise given in baptism is that, having died in Christ, we will also be raised to new life in him just as he was raised from the dead (Romans 6:4).
Death may think it rules the world, that it directs the way of everyone who has ever lived, no matter the nationality or social position. But there is another who rules over death, for he brings to life even those who have died. Whoever believes in him will never die, for as Luther said, “Christ is the Death of death.”
