Series: Comments on Galatians

Today's Scripture Jigsaw

Paul and Silas were freed from jail and the jailer’s life was now forfeit. Knowing his life is required for losing his prisoners, he draws his sword to take his own life. Like the jailer, we are always trying to pay for our sins — even to the extreme of giving our own lives. There is one who has given his life so that you need give no more. There is no payment you could make, but the gospel promises us that Christ has paid it all: everything we owe (Matthew 18:23–27).

When it seems that you have failed at the one thing you were entrusted with, and all seems lost because you can never requite your failures, that is the very moment when you should realize there is now but one critical thing to do. Believe. “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.”
